Etienne Mathey

Biography

Etienne Mathey is a partner in August Debouzy's Corporate team, which he joined in 2024. He specializes in strategic M&A and private equity transactions, both domestic and international.

Etienne has almost 25 years' recognized experience and expertise in mergers and acquisitions, LBOs, growth capital, venture capital and securities law.

He handles a wide range of matters, including private equity transactions on behalf of funds and strategic deals (such as carve-outs, joint ventures, and public offerings) for corporate clients, both French and international, in a variety of sectors, including defense, luxury, healthcare, and telecommunications.

Étienne also provides strategic advice on complex pre-litigation and litigation matters, including post-acquisition disputes and shareholder conflicts.

Prior to joining the firm, he built a distinguished career at leading French and Anglo-Saxon law firms, including Rambaud Martel (2003-2006), Proskauer Rose LLP (2006-2011), and Paul Hastings (2011-2023), where he was promoted to partner in 2014.

In 2005, he was recognized as the “Best Young Business Lawyer” in a competition sponsored by ACE, the French Association of Corporate Lawyers.
